This can be called the era of communication. Internet has transformed the way we perceive interpersonal communication. In the past it would take up to a month for a person to receive a letter. Today’s electronic mail is sent and received in mere seconds. Personally I believe that this method of communication is not as “romantic” as it used to be.
Phone craze
In 1876 the first telephone was created . In those days only the most exclusive circles could afford to have one.It allowed for an unprecedented speed of communication and became an instant hit amongst the chosen few. Many believed that this was the final frontier of communication. Alas! Mobile phones were born.
Today’s cell phones are a far cry from the bulky back packs with antennas and 10$ a minute charges.
They’re light and convenient and cost the fraction of the price compared to a decade ago. It seems that today almost everyone has got to have one. Words like “Smart Phones” and “Reverse phone look ups” have become part of our vocabularies. Popularity has also reached the developing states which might not even create a landline network at all, but rather a cellular one. Cell phone towers are much cheaper in construction and maintenance which makes them an ideal alternative.
Society needs to adopt this new trend responsibly
It’s undeniable that cellular phones facilitate communication, but they did spawn some debatable issues. Reverse phone tracing comes to mind. If you were to look up a landline you would only get the postal address of the individual to whom the phone number belongs.
But some of today’s reverse cell phone traces allow you to get the exact location of the person who is carrying the cell phone.
This can be a major security risk. Conversely an ability like that can be used for tracking lost children. Reverse mobile tracing is just one of the issues. Mutation of brain cells and it’s relation to cell phone use is still being examined by the medical community.
Answer
People’s elected representatives have to get more involved in these important manners. This is probably the only solution that will help an average consumer feel safer in this era of communication.
